Carissa Moore: Early Life and Childhood

Carissa Kainani Moore was born on 27th August 1992 in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA.

Her parents are Chris Moore and Carol Lum. She has a younger sister named Cayla.

In addition, the athlete’s father was a competitive open water swimmer and her role model.

She started surfing with her father off the beaches of Waikiki at the young age of five.

Sadly, Moore was ten when her parents got divorced. She chose to stay with her father and pursue her dream of surfing.

The Begining

In 2005, she became third in the Female Junior Final category to represent Hawaii at the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships.

By the time Carissa was 16, she had 11 National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) amateur titles.

At the very young age of 16, the surfer became the youngest surfer to win the Reef Hawaiian Pro at a Triple Crown of Surfing event. 

Carissa Moore: Professional Career

In 2010, she competed in the ASP World Tour, won two major contests, and finished third overall. In addition, the surfer was named “Rookie of the Year.”

Similarly, in 2011, she defeated a four-time defending champion Stephanie Gilmore and claimed her first World Crown, becoming the youngest ever to win a surfing world title.

Depending on the surf conditions, she catches up to 25 to 30 waves on her one-hour rides.

The athlete surfs with her fellow surfers, all at a distance of around 16 feet apart from one another so that they won’t collide with each other.

Her coach is Micah Nickens, a Three-time Maui Pro champion.

Similarly, Carissa Moore also has an online trainer with whom she works three to four times per week.

In addition, she exercises on her own twice a week. Her training also includes doing Pilates, cardio exercises, and HIIT workouts.

She uses a timer on her phone for a HIIT workout and does 45 seconds of workout followed by a 15-second rest.
