David Storl was born in Rochlitz, Germany. He was born to a middle-class family.

However, the Olympian’s family tried to provide a better lifestyle for him. Due to which they always approved his willingness to play sports.

At a very young age, his athleticism was recognized by his grandfather. Thus, he encouraged the shot putter to join a local club.

During his early period, he focused on decathlon. However, after his personal coach died, he focused on shot put as a tribute to him.

Junior Championship

At a young age, the German glider had achieved impressive skills. He participates in the 2007 World Youth Championships.

Here the athlete glided a 5kg shot ball to 21.40 meters. This brilliant performance secured him a gold medal.

Furthermore, in the following year of 2008, he competed in World Junior Championships. This event was held in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

He again secured the first position with a record of 21.08 meters with a 6kg shot ball.

To add to his two gold medals, he won another gold in the 2009 European Junior Championships. Here the player recorded 22.40 meters glide with a 6kg shot ball.

Following it, the next World Indoor Championship was held in the year 2014. Here the shot put devil placed 2nd with a distance of 21.79 meters and 29 centimeters far from the gold medallist Ryan Whiting.

In 2015, he took part in the European Indoor Championship. Thanks to his extreme skills, he got the gold medal with a record of 21.23 meters.

In 2017, he once again participated in the European Indoor Championship. However, David got the bronze medal with 21.30 meters glide.

In the following year, he was involved in the World Indoor Championship. David showed an impressive performance and earned the silver medal with a throw of 21.44 meters.

Similarly, David participated in the European Indoor Championships. In this event, he got hold of the silver medal with the glide of an impressive 21.54 meters and just 11 centimeters from the gold medalist Michał Haratyk.

European Championship

As a senior, David took part in the  European Championship in 2010. There he placed 4th with a glide of 20.57 meters.

In 2011, David reserved the gold medal with a distance of 20.57 meters, held in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

The champion once again took part in the event in 2012, held in Helsinki, Finland. David was successful at achieving the gold medal yet again with a glide of 21.58 meters.

David dominated the event held in Zurich, Switzerland, in 2014. The shot-putter earned the gold medal with 21.41 meters.

After 2 years since the 2014 event, David once again took part in European Championship. The German athlete shocked the whole world by winning the gold medal four times in a row. This time he glided the ball at a distance of 21.31.

In the year European Championship was held in Storl’s home country. Despite the event being held in his country, it was not the German professional athlete’s year. The shot-putter placed 3rd with a distance of 21.21 meters.

World Championship

The World Championship was held in Berlin, Germany, in 2009. David could not give his best at this event which led him to the 27th position with 19.19 meters. This was also his first senior competition.

However, in 2013, he was physically as well as mentally well prepared. In this event, he took home the gold medal with a range of 21.78 meters.
