In 2010, Julius made a new personal best of 75.44 meters jump at the Kenyan Commonwealth trials.

With an impressive javelin throw on his trial for the Commonwealth, he traveled to New Delhi for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Sadly, he ended the competition in the seventh position with a low-distance throw of 69.60 meters, as he made over 75 meters during his qualifying round.

His low performance during the commonwealth games was due to the lack of coaches.

However, without a professional trainer, he stayed at the top of Kenya for four straight years.

In the 2011 All-Africa Games, Yego made a new Kenyan national record making 78.34 meters throw, breaking Paul Lagat’s fourteen-year national record.

2012 London Olympics

Julius trained for two months at the IAAF-accredited in Kuortane, Finland, and became ready to compete in the 2012 London Olympics.

Yego became the first Kenyan athlete as Jevelin thrower to participate in the Olympics, where he set a new record of 79.95 meters.

Moreover, this Kenyan athlete improved the national record at the Finnish Elite Games Series, making 81.12 meters.

During his 2012 London Olympics, Yego made an impressive 81.81 meters throw which advanced him to the finals. But unfortunately, Yego ended up in 12th place at the finals.

The same year, he won a second gold medal at the African Championships with a new season-best of 84.72 meters defeating Ihab Abdelrahman El-Sayed.
