Kevin Martin was born in Zanesville, Ohio, the USA, to Kevin Martin Sr. and Jonathon Martin, and his younger brother is Jonathon Martin.

After Martin’s junior year at Western Carolina, he entered the 2004 NBA Draft.

Further, having an impressive collegiate career, scouts projected him to be drafted in the first round.

As expected, the Sacramento Kings, with its 26th pick, selected Martin in the first round. Likewise, he was a backup point guard during his rookie season.

Instantly, he came out to average 20.2 points, 2.2 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game. Nevertheless, he couldn’t help the Kings prevail for a playoff spot.

In the offseason, the rookie contract for the Kings shooting guard expired. Thus,  Sacramento signed him for a 5-year $55million contract on August 28, 2007.

Further, Sacramento fired Eric Musselman and hired Reggie Theus for the 2007-08 season. As a result, the new head coach moved Martin back to the bench as a backup guard.

He embraced the role and became the 6th man for the team by averaging 23.7 points per game. Likewise, the following year he averages a career-high 24.6 points per game.

However, his scoring ability still couldn’t help the Kings secure a playoff spot. Therefore, under head coach Paul Westphal, the Kings trader Martin to the Houston Rockets.

Houston Rockets

On February 18, 2010, Houston received Martin in a three-way trade with the Knicks and the Kings. He played as the starting shooting guard for the Rockets.

Further, he had a poor debut as he scored 14 points while shooting 3-16 from the field.

However, he redeemed himself by scoring 39 points in his first game back in Sacramento.

Likewise, by the end of the season, he averaged 23.5 points per game. Not to mention, he scored an average of 7.4 throws per game, second in the NBA to only Kevin Durant.

In the following season, he suffered a shoulder injury early into the season.

Nonetheless, he did return but re-aggravated the injury and had to miss the remainder of the season.

Oklahoma City Thunder

On October 27, 2012, Rockets trader Martin to the Thunders for the future NBA star James Harden. 

Furthermore, the Thunders were title contenders and were looking to add depth to their bench lineup. As a result, Martin brought nice firepower for the second lineup.

However, things did not go as planned for the Thunders as they lost to Memphis Grizzlies in the 2012-13 Western Conference Semifinals.

Moreover, on being a free agent in the offseason, the athlete did not reach any deals with the Thunders.

Minnesota Timberwolves

On July 2, 2013, the NBA player agreed to a 4-year $28million contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Further, he was in the starting lineup and scored 19.1 points per game in the first season with the Timberwolves.

He became a valuable asset to the team and instantly became one of the team’s leading scores.

However, in the third season, he underwent surgery to repair a fracture in his right wrist.
