Initially, he was scheduled to compete in shorter stage races and one-day Classic stages.

Eventually, the racer made his debut on the big professional stage at the Vuelta a San Juan. He also won the young rider classification.

Actually, he was 9th overall in the stage 3 time trials.

The professional victory, however, came at the Tour of Belgium. Remco won the general classification as well as a stage and the points classification.

Later, on August 30, 2019, Remco won the Classica de San Sabastian and scored his first World Tour Victory.

With this win, he became the third-youngest rider ever to win a cycling classic in the sport’s history. The cyclist also won the silver medal in the time trial.

The cyclist also won the time trial at the 2019 European Road Championships on August 8, 2019.

He would have easily made it to the World Championships in the ride of the under-23 category. However, he opted out of it and chose to start with the elite men’s events.

Later, the rider won the 2020 season at the Vuelta a San Juan. At the event, he actually won the individual time trial on stage 3 and the general classification.

Similarly, he competed at the Volta ao Algarve in stage two and the finals in the time trial. 

The rider’s cycling career paused with the Covid-19 pandemic. In the extended break of cycling, Remco practiced a lot. Hence, he won the Vuelta a Burgos and Tour de. Pologne in 2020.

Accident and Injury

During his one-day cycling race of 2020 Lombardia II, he had a serious accident.

While descending, he faced a sharp curve and collided with a low wall on the side of a bridge.

Further, the racer was thrown over the bridge with the impact, and then he fell several meters below the road in a dirt area near some trees.

Other cyclists weren’t involved in the accident, but Remeco was severely hurt. Remco was swiftly removed from the scene by emergency services while being conscious and responsive all time.

The cyclist suffered a fractured pelvis and a right lung contusion. It was also announced that the cyclist wouldn’t return to the competition shortly.

However, the racer made it back to competition in the 2021 Giro d’Italia. And he also finished at the 7th in the prologue time trial.

After the competition, the player said that it was hard for him to come back and start the Giro like this, and he was standing on the ramp with tears in his eyes.

Currently, Remco Evenepole participated in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 in the men’s road race and the individual time trial too.
