Born in Bergen op Zoom, Netherlands, Rico started learning martial arts at just five years old.

As his father was a karate black belt, he trained with his father.

Rico signed with Glory World Series. He advanced to the quarter-finals beating Sergei Kharitonov at Glory 4: Tokyo Heavyweight Grand Slam in Saitama, Japan.
