Carrie Coon’s parents, John and Paula Coon welcomed her into the world in Copley, Ohio, on January 24, 1981. 

She has two younger brothers, an older brother, and an older sister, which makes four siblings in total.

Josh Coon, her brother, is her only known sibling. The personal details about her parents are unknown.

Coon attended Copley High School as a teenager. She continued her education at the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio, and earned a degree in English and Spanish there in 2003.

At the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Coon later earned an MFA in acting.

Coon married playwright and Actor Tracy Letts in 2013 after meeting at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company.

She would later play the lead in his plays “Bug” and “Mary Page Marlowe.” The couple has a son and a daughter together.

Haskell Letts, their son, was born on March 13, 2018. Charles Haskell Letts, Tracy’s grandfather, was honored by having his name given to Haskell.

During the 2021 filming of The Gilded Age, Carrie Coon was pregnant with a daughter, her second child. Her name hasn’t been revealed yet.

Coon moved to Chicago in 2008 and participated in the “Bront” production by the Remy Bumppo Theatre Company.

She commuted between Chicago and Wisconsin for the following few years to perform in various play productions.

Coon additionally performed motion-capture work for a Wisconsin-based video game Company.

In the Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s 2010 production of Edward Albee’s play “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf,” Coon made her breakthrough as Honey.

Additionally, Coon played the same part in “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” when it was staged in New York City and Washington, DC. 

In 2014, Coon made her feature film debut as Margo Dunne in David Fincher’s adaptation of the crime thriller book “Gone Girl,” which also starred Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck.

She co-starred in “Strange Weather” with Holly Hunter two years later.
