Cooley was drafted by the Washington Redskins as the 81st overall pick in the third round in the 2004 NFL Draft.

He was used more immensely in the last eight games than the first half of the 2004 season. 

Due to his talent and hard work, Chris recorded 37 receptions with 314 yards in his first NFL season.

Furthermore, he caught three passes of more than twenty yards and got 23 first downs in the game.

Unfortunately, in a game against Philadelphia Eagles on October 26, 2009, Cooley broke his ankle.
