For his part in “Eleanor and Franklin: The White House Year,” which aired in 1977, Harmon was nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie category.

After that, Harmon never looked back, and his career overgrew. His regular role in the daytime serial opera “Flamingo Road” increased his notoriety in the 1980s. Before playing Dr. Caldwell in “St. Elsewhere” in 1983, he played the role for two seasons.
