Mark Harmon is an American actor best known for his work on the CBS crime drama “NCIS.”

On September 2, 1951, Thomas Mark Harmon, better known by his stage name Mark Harmon, was born in Burbank, California. His mother is an actress, and his father, a well-known football player, helped pave the road for his career.

NCIS presently holds the title of CBS’ longest-running scripted primetime program. It has grown its franchise to include the long-running NCIS: Los Angeles, the recently departed NCIS: New Orleans, and the newest series NCIS: Hawai’i. NCIS was a spinoff of the 1995–2005 television series JAG.

The series centers on the life and exploits of the government special agents tasked with pursuing felonies, stopping terrorism, and guarding Navy and Marine Corps secrets.

Harmon thought about entering the legal or advertising fields right after his education.

He began his career there as a director of marketing but soon switched to acting. The 1975 episodes of Ozzie’s Girls, Adam-12, Police Woman, and Emergency were the first ones he worked on. Additionally, he worked with famed producer Jack Webb on the tracks Sam and 905-Wild.

For his part in “Eleanor and Franklin: The White House Year,” which aired in 1977, Harmon was nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie category.

After that, Harmon never looked back, and his career overgrew. His regular role in the daytime serial opera “Flamingo Road” increased his notoriety in the 1980s. Before playing Dr. Caldwell in “St. Elsewhere” in 1983, he played the role for two seasons.

Before departing the show in 1986, Harmon portrayed this character for about three years.
