The Brisbane Broncos offered Payne Haas the chance to skip the game against Canberra in 2020 if he wanted to be by his brother’s side as the ventilated quadriplegic’s condition rapidly deteriorated inside a Gold Coast hospital.
But because of his brother’s passion for rugby league and after seeing Payne march onto the field, the prop played one final game in honor of the person he previously referred to as his hero, clearly overcome with grief.

Payne skipped training on Thursday and missed the next two weeks of action due to suspension. He was shocked by the passing and paid a moving homage to his elder brother on social media.
Payne stated on Instagram that he was confused at that moment, but he knew his brother wouldn’t want him down.
