Derrick Henry is a very tall and attractive guy. Because of his long legs and angular running style, he fits better on teams who need lead-backs with his physicality. Henry has consistently impressed despite his height anytime he is on the field. 

Although he is not particularly inventive in the backfield, his superb ability to fool opponents makes him a menace once he has the ball in his hands. Following a broken foot bone in 2021, Derrick Henry missed nine games. Bulldozing back for the Tennessee Titans made a postseason comeback, but he didn’t play like himself against the eventual AFC champion Cincinnati Bengals.

Henry is inspired going into the 2022 season by the loss and the injury.

Before suffering an injury last year, Henry was on his way to another season with 300 or more carries after winning back-to-back rushing titles. The workhorse amassed 937 yards and ten touchdowns on 219 carries in eight games. Despite missing nine games, Henry still placed in the top 10 in the NFL for rushing yards, carries, and touchdowns.

Henry ran 20 times for 62 yards and a touchdown in the Titans’ postseason game, averaging just 3.1 yards per carrying, a far cry from his usual gaudy output. The bruising back didn’t seem like himself that day and was unsure, especially on one crucial fourth-down failure that resulted in short yardage.

Derrick Henry Family Details 

Henry was raised in Yulee, Nassau County, Florida, with his late grandma Gladys and grandpa Benjamin (who had 14 children of their own). And with his African American parents Derrick Lamar Henry Sr. and his wife, Stacy Veal. Derrick eventually moved in with J. T. Medley, his middle school football coach, and his aunt Latrease while still in high school. 

Medley was Henry’s mentor and support system throughout high school and college. He was more than just a coach. Derrick began his football career while a student at Yulee High School. He also participated in other sports, including basketball and track competitions.

Henry spent his first year as a rushing back for his school squad, scoring 26 touchdowns while covering 2,465 yards. He ran for 2,788 yards and 38 touchdowns the following year.

He had a record of 153 touchdowns and 12,124 rushing yards after his high school career. He was chosen for the 2013 U.S. Army All-American Bowl East squad. He was selected to the USA Today high school All-American team and received Florida’s Mr. Football Award. Additionally, ESPN gave Henry a five-star rating, and in 2013 he was crowned the best athlete in the country.

Derrick Henry continued his education at the University of Alabama after graduating, playing collegiate football from 2013 to 2015. He received a communications degree in May 2018. 

Derrick amassed 382 yards and three rushing touchdowns in his first college season. Because of his dependability, Pablo Viruega, a Spanish sportscaster, gave him the nickname “El Tractorcito,” which translates to “The Little Tractor.” In the 2014 Sugar Bowl, when he had eight carries, a score, and 100 yards rushing, he also helped his team win. The star kept improving in his second season; he concluded the 2014 campaign with 990 rushing yards, 172 carries, and 11 touchdowns.
