Frank Lampard Retirement Details

Frank Lampard, a former Chelsea and England star, announced his retirement in 2017 from football after a 21-year professional career.

The ex-Three Lions midfielder announced his retirement on Instagram on Thursday, months after departing Major League Soccer club New York City FC:

Lampard made 626 appearances for Chelsea and 106 caps for England in a career spanning more than two decades, according to Transfermarkt, after making his professional debut for West Ham United in 1996.

The experienced midfielder won three Premier League titles with Chelsea after joining from West Ham in 2001, as well as one UEFA Champions League title, four FA Cups, and a UEFA Europa League title.

Phil McNulty, a BBC Sport reporter, gave gratitude to the Romford native, and not just for his brilliance on the field:

The 38-year-old is the second England centurion to announce his retirement in the previous three months, following Steven Gerrard, who completed his career with a final MLS swan song with LA Galaxy.

Gerrard returned to his old Anfield haunts and took up a coaching post with Liverpool, and many may wonder if Lampard may follow in Gerrard’s footsteps into management at Stamford Bridge:

Lampard established a reputation as one of the most prolific midfield scorers at the elite level during his career, scoring 208 goals in 626 appearances for the Blues—an average of slightly under one goal every three games.

Lampard stated on Instagram that he has received “opportunities to continue playing at home and abroad,” but he leaves on a high note after helping New York City FC reach the MLS play-offs in their maiden season.

Lampard’s return to football, on the other hand, may not be long in coming. He thanked the Football Association for assisting him in obtaining his coaching qualifications, implying that a management career for one of the Premier League’s most recognized figures is not far off.
