Freya had a near-fatal accident while navigating the notorious Cape Horn.

Despite leaving in ‘good’ conditions, Freya and her team encountered a small storm with 60 knots of wind.

They were also blown off course and forced to land on a high rocky promontory of cliff and rock.

Fortunately, the landing only resulted in bruising, but it damaged her kayak and broke her paddle.

However, Freya learned that her friend and fellow paddler Alejandro Daniel Carranza had perished in the same storm.

Freya also managed to survive the tidal bore that originates in the Amazon, known as the ‘Pororoca.’

She described hearing sounds like tropical rain approaching but realized what it was just seconds before it hit.
