American improv and stand-up comedian Salvatore Edward Anthony Vulcano is also an actor, producer, and native of the Staten Island neighborhood of New York City. He is a member of The Tenderloins, an ensemble of comedians that includes James Murray, Brian Quinn, and Joe Gatto.

Vulcano is of Italian, Cuban, and Puerto Rican ancestry and was born on Staten Island. Along with Gatto, Murray, and Quinn, he attended Monsignor Farrell High School and was a part of the improv club there because they saw it as a way to express themselves and meet females. In 1998, he graduated from St. John’s University with a degree in finance.

Murray, Gatto, and Vulcano got back together after spending years apart and started practicing improvisation in Gatto’s residence. In 1999, they embarked on their first tour as The Tenderloins, an improv and sketch comedy group.

Since he rose to international fame, Sal has kept a close lid on his personal life. Sal rarely discusses his sexuality, but he came out as gay on a Daytime Talk Show with Sally Jessy episode. 

James Murray revealed his homosexuality after confessing, and he then opened up. Sal then shocked the audience by announcing that he had come out as gay to get James to disclose his sexual orientation.

Sal first met his fellow Impractical Jokers members in high school. They split up after high school and got back together to start their comedy ensemble after college. Punishing a member who doesn’t pull off a prank to the satisfaction of the other members is a key component of their sense of humor. Sal has received the most punishments thus far and maybe the series’ longest-enduring sentence.
