NASCAR: What Happened To Kurt Busch? Accident And Health Update

Kurt Busch is expected to miss a fourth straight NASCAR Cup Series race After his racing accident at Pocono. Busch’s car backed into the wall during the qualifying session, causing him to seem to get a concussion.

Busch won’t race at Watkins Glen or Daytona, and it’s unclear if he’ll be available for the playoffs.

In the United States of America, stock car racing is sanctioned and managed by the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, LLC.

Bill France Sr. created the privately held corporation in 1948, and Jim France, his son, has served as CEO since August 2018.

What Happened To Kurt Busch?

Kurt Busch confirmed Thursday afternoon that he would miss the remaining four NASCAR Cup Series races after cutting the previous four.

Busch will thus not participate in either of the two Cup races still to be held at Daytona International Speedway or Watkins Glen International. Ty Gibbs will continue to operate the No. 45 Toyota for 23XI Racing as Kurt Busch’s stand-in driver.

Busch said that NASCAR had not given him the go-ahead to race due to “concussion-like” symptoms he had had after a heavy accident in Turn 3 during the final round of qualifying last month at Pocono.

Busch stated that he would miss the remainder of the regular season to give his injury enough time to recover so he could start the NASCAR playoffs at Darlington in September. There is no specific date for when he can travel again, though.

NASCAR has given Busch a medical waiver due to his victory at Kansas Speedway in May, enabling him to make the playoffs despite missing several races.

He could hypothetically skip the Southern 500 at Darlington or the second round of 16 events at Kansas Speedway and still have a chance to progress to the round of 12 if he wins the Night Race at Bristol.

It is feasible because of a medical exemption that, according to reports, would let him skip at least one playoff race in the first round.

There are rumors that Kyle, Kurt’s brother, may drive the No. 45 vehicle in 2023. After the 2022 season, Kyle Busch’s agreement with Joe Gibbs Racing will end.

That may open the door for Ty Gibbs, one of the most thrilling drivers in the Xfinity Series, to compete for his grandfather.

Kurt Busch Accident And Health Update

Busch stated, “As much as I want to get in the vehicle, the moment is still not right.

“Over the past few weeks, I have committed all of my efforts to become healthier. In order to focus all of my recovery efforts on trying to get back in time for the Playoffs, I also won’t be competing in the ensuing races at Watkins Glen and Daytona.

This decision is the right one, despite being difficult. I have to go all out in this race. I owe that to everyone at 23XI, including my competitors and supporters as well as our team members.

“I want to re-enter the postseason with the No. 45 Toyota Camry TRD. In my absence, Ty will do a terrific job, and I appreciate the competition he brings to the track.

In his final remarks, Busch remarked, “I continue to be immensely grateful for all the well wishes and support. It truly does mean a lot.

Busch has been competing in the NASCAR Cup Series for 23 years. In 2004, the 44-year-old won the championship.

Only 16 drivers have been assured a spot in the playoffs. Historically, a victory guaranteed a driver’s location in the playoffs.

Fifteen different victors have emerged thus far this season, though. The NASCAR Playoffs get underway at Darlington Raceway in September.
