British Darts Corporation (BDC)

As a 17-year-old, he won his first tournament, the Rotterdam Open, during his first year.

Van Barneveld was regarded as a child prodigy among his countrymen from that point forward.

Following his elimination, Van Barneveld announced his immediate retirement on 28 March, only to reverse his decision the next day.
