Umesh Pal Murder Case
Umesh Pal was one of the critical witnesses in the murder of Raju Pal, a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator who was killed in one of the murders in which Ahmad was accused in 2005. In 2007, Umesh filed a Police complaint alleging that Atiq Ahmed, a gangster-turned-politician, and his aides were threatening and pressuring him.
Furthermore, Umesh was attacked with homemade bombs and was murdered outside his home in Prayagraj on February 24 of this year. During the incident, Police confirmed that one of his bodyguards was also shot along with Umesh and later died at a hospital.
On February 25, Umesh’s wife Jaya filed a case against Ahmad, his brother Ashraf, and his wife Shaista Parveen; notably, Atiq Ahmed, the main suspect in Raju and Umesh Pal’s murder case, was held in Jail. However, he died during his involvement in the murder case.
In addition, Atiq Ahmed, who Police were escorting, was speaking to the media in Prayagraj; while talking to the media, a gun was drawn close to his head and shot him to death.
Following the bullets fired on the incident night, three persons posing as journalists were surrendered and brought into custody.
