Tiffany Smiley’s husband, Scotty Smiley, is the Army’s first blind active-duty officer blinded by a suicide bomber in 2005 in Iraq.

After he graduated from Ranger School at Fort Benning, Georgia, Scott’s career began at West Point.

Following his injury during a suicide car bomb detonated, he was temporarily paralyzed, making him the first blind active-duty officer in military history. In 2015, Scot medically retired from the military services.

Scotty Smiley graduated from the United States Military Academy (USMA) and later received a Master’s in Business Administration from Duke University. Following his military retirement, he works in the financial industry.

Her husband holds an Honorary Ph.D. from Mount Saint Mary College in Newburg, New York. In 2018, after retiring, the retired major received the Patriot of Hope Award in Beverly Hills.
