Arie Luyendyk Jr. Family Life Explored

Luyendyk was born in the Netherlands; her parents are Arie and Mieke Luyendyk.

Former Dutch race car driver The Flying Dutchman, also known as Arie Luijendijk, won the Indianapolis 500 in 1990 and 1997. 

He was inducted into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame in 2009 and the American Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2014.

Luyendyk won seven Indy car races, including three in the CART series, all of which were held on oval courses.

When he was three years old, his family—including his sister Maida—moved to Brookfield, Wisconsin. The younger twin brothers of Luyendyk, Alec and Luca, are also twins.

When he began competing in 1992, Luyendyk’s first motorsport was kart racing. He switched from the Formula Ford club competition at 16 to the Sports Car Club of America competition.

He participated in numerous junior formula races across the country, winning the Skip Barber Formula Dodge series and finishing in the top five of the U.S. Formula Ford 2000 Championship.

Luyendyk won the SCCA Southern Pacific divisional championship in 2001 and, as a result of four victories in the Formula Continental class, finished third in the SCCA National Championship Runoffs.
