Junior Career

Brendan’s Junior career began in 2006, but it was not until the 2009 season that he and his team would get the recognition they deserved.

Around 2009, they had won four junior bonspiels. They were already considered the top team.

By the 2010 season and before the 2010 Olympics, Brendan and his teammates played exhibition matches against top-tier teams like Kevin Martin and Thomas Ulsrud.

After all the preparation and practice in the exhibition games, they participated in the Alberta junior provincial curling championships and won it with ease against their rivals.

Around the end of the 2011 season, Brendan’s teammate, Brad Thiessen, was not eligible to participate in the junior tournaments as he had already crossed the maximum age for juniors.

To replace Brad, they brought Evan Asmussen to the team, and it took a bit of time for them to get the synergy they had with Brad.

Then came their first tournament together, the 2012 Alberta junior provincials.

Everyone had big hopes for the team, and they showed their skills in the round-robin stages and won all games.

After conquering the group stages, they performed flawlessly in the playoffs and won the tournament without losing any games.

Next was the Canadian junior championships, and it was going to be tough as many top-tier teams participate there. Still, Brendan led his team to victory and won the tournament.

Moreover, he was also awarded the all-star skip honors for the highest shooting percentage.

All the hype was leading up, and Brendan and his buddies were allowed to represent Canada in the 2012 World Junior Curling Championships held in Sweden.

They finished the group stages with eight wins and just one loss.

Then in the playoffs, they defeated Sweden and went to the finals, and on the other hand, Sweden won against all other opponents and got to the finals.

It was Sweden vs. Canada in the finals, and both teams were one of the best in the world. Everyone was excited.

Brendan stole the spotlight and scored five points, resulting in Canada win over Sweden with a 10-4.

Professional Career

After a successful Junior career, Brendan got into the professional Curling scene in 2012.

Brendan participated in the World Curling Tour (WCT) event at the 2012 Red Deer Curling Classic as his first tournament in the senior category.

He and his teammates at the University of Alberta performed excellently and won the tournament without any hindrance.

Then a bit of misfortune followed them as they played poorly in the new few tournaments. Especially in the grand slam events where they lost both events with a score of 1-4.

The misfortunes ended with their win at the second WCT event in 2013, Spruce Grove Cashspiel.

But again, in the 2014 Boston Pizza Cup, they just won one game and got eliminated.

After that tournament, one of Brendan’s teammates, Lizmore, left the team to form his own team.

New Team

The team more or less expected the departure of Lizmore, and they had an alternative player ready for that situation, Tom Appelman.

With the addition of Tom, Brendan and his team were on a roll again and were back in their forms.

Right off the bat, they won the 2014 HDF Insurance Shoot-Out and the German masters.

Then they had some ups and downs in the 2015 season, and in 2016, their forms would go completely wonky, and they ended trophyless that season.

After the bad seasons, there were changes in the roster, and Tom left, and Simmons also left alongside him but luckily for Brendan, he managed to get replacements.

Similarly, After the roster change, the team was feeling fresh, and they performed well. And in the same year, the team won the 2017 Boston Pizza Cup Alberta men’s title.

Again next year, Brendan and his teammates won the 2018 Boston Pizza Cup and got an opportunity to participate in the 2018 Tim Hortons Brier.

They made it to the tournament’s finals, but unfortunately, they lost to the Brad Gushue team.

Recent Career

After the loss at the  Brier, instead of being disappointed, Brendan and his fellow teammates were motivated to win some games, and they did so.

They won the Medicine Hat Charity Classic and the Red Deer Curling Classic around the end of 2017.

Then in 2018, he followed it up with a win at the Canad Inns Men’s Classic.

Team Bottcher was not going to stop with all these successful wins, and they finally got their hands on their first-ever Grand Slam event at the Meridian Canadian Open.

Bottcher faced Team Epping which are one of the best team in the world right now. Brendan led his team to the win and won the game with a score of 6–3.

Then last year in 2020, they again won the 2020 Boston Pizza Cup and earned the opportunity to participate in the Brier.

In the Brier, they performed well but unfortunately lost in the finals.

After that event, all other tournaments were canceled due to the ongoing Covid Pandemic, but the Brier was held again earlier in 2021.

Brendan and his team represented Alberta, and finally, they conquered their first-ever Brier this year.

Team Bottcher defeated the four-time Brier champion Kevin Koe in the finals, with a 4–2 score.
