The renowned coach Chip Kelly was born on November 25th of 1963, in Dover, USA. His father’s name is Paul Kelly, and his mother’s name is Jean Kelly. The information about his parent’s occupation is unknown.

Early Years

Chip broke out in the coaching field as soon as he graduated from college. He went on to coach the freshman at the University of Columbia.

The next year he went back to his college, the University of New Hampshire, to coach the running backs.

He left that job to become the Defensive Coordinator at the Johns Hopkins University.

But only after a season he came back to his roots at the University of New Hampshire to be the running coach for three years, from 1994 to 1996. Then he became the offensive line coach from 1997 to 1998.

After two years in offensive line coaching, he was promoted to Offensive Coordinator by the university.

He stayed in that position for eight seasons from 1999 to 2006. In 2004 his team broke 29 offensive college records.

He was named the Coach of the Year by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston in 2005.

He was also named as one of the hottest college football coaches by American Football Monthly.

Kelly, along with coaches like Dan Mullen, Ryan Day, and Gary Crowton, are called the New Hampshire Mafia since they have strong connections to Hampshire.

Oregon Ducks

Chip moved on to the Oregon Ducks in the year 2007 as the Offensive Coordinator. But when Mike Bellotti was promoted to Athletic Director, his Head coach post went to Kelly.

The year 2009 was a game-changer for the Oregon Ducks. Chip Kelly became the coach to lead the Oregon Ducks into the Rose Bowl for the first time since 1995.

Even though they lost to Ohio State University, Chip became the Pac-10 Coach of the Year.

Following the 2009 season, Oregon Ducks got the number one ranking in the BCS. And in the next season of 2010, the Oregon Ducks finally defeated their long-time nemesis, the Oregon State Beavers.

The same year Chip Kelly won the Pac10 Coach of the Year award second time in running. He also became AP coach of the year.

With their lucks still working, the Oregon Ducks made it to the next two BCS Championships under Coach Kelly.

They ended their 2011 season with a number four ranking. This was their second Rose Bowl appearance and Sixth overall.

The Ducks won against Kansas State with a 35-17 victory in Oregon’s fourth appearance in the BCS Championship. They ended the season with a number two ranking overall.

Sadly in the 2013 season, NCAA put probation on the Oregon Ducks, which happened during Chip Kelly’s tenure as head coach. He was put on an eighteen-month show-cause penalty which would have made it harder for him to be hired by any NCAA institute.

However, this ban proved to be of no use since Chip Kelly moved on to the NFL for coaching. And this became his career start in the NFL.

Philadephia Eagles

After being interviewed by several NFL teams such as Buffalo Bills and the Cleveland Browns, Chip Kelly finally decided to settle down with the Philadephia Eagles on January 6th of 2013. He was assigned the post of Head coach.

Similarly, in the 2013 season, the Eagles won the NFC Eastern Division Championship with a 10-6 record. Chip Kelly became the second head coach to lead a team in division title in the first year of the NFL.

Even with identical stats like the previous year. The Eagles could not make it to the Playoffs in the 2014 season.

Likewise, in the 2015 season Chip, Kelly made some questionable choices. He traded the teams running back LeSean McCoy and quarterback Nick Foles. This decision was not taken well by a lot of fans.

San Francisco 49ers

Shortly after being fired from the Philadephia Eagle, Chip Kelly was hired by the San Francisco 49ers on January 14th of 2016. He remained victorious in his first debut game as their coach against the Los Angeles Rams.

But this streak was not going to continue since the San Francisco 49ers would go on 13 games losing streak.

And in the 2017 season, Chip Kelly was fired from his job. In the same year, he joined the ESPN Network to work as a sports analyst.


UCLA Bruins

On November 25th of 2017, UCLA hired Chip as their head coach. And within the same year, he brought bad luck. And UCLA had a 3-9 record which was their worst record since 1971.

Similarly, the next season he has three losing streaks. And he was considered the worst coach since Harry Trotter.

Until the team made 32 points over comeback against the Washington State which is the third-highest score in the FBS.

With the team, there have been both wins and losses, which is ultimately part of the game. Chip Kelly, to this day, is still a head coach for the UCLA Bruins.
