Christopher Roger Woakes was born on March 2 of 1989 in Birmingham, West Midlands of England.

He was born to his parents Roger Woakes his father, and Elaine Woakes, his mother. They lived around Aldridge in the west midlands.

Chris grew up together with his brother David Woakes with whom he played cricket since childhood.

Usually, kids are more interested in batting as it seems more fun, but Woakes always had an interest in bowling since he was a child.

He started playing Cricket at the age of 7 after joining the Aston Manor Cricket Club.

He played and improved his skills throughout the years, and when he was 11, he attended the Barr Beacon school.

When he joins the school, he was already skilled at cricket, and he even played tournaments while attending school.

Around 2006, he was trained in the Herefordshire County Cricket Club, and during his time there, he played three matches in the Minor Counties Trophy and performed well.

After that, he just went up and played many matches in U17 for the Warwickshire academy and Second XI teams.

As he started his amateur career in 2006, he started with a bang. He performed well in all his matches.

Chris had performed so well in the 2008 season that he was the top wicket-taker and had the best average in the league.

Joining the International Team

His first international game was a T20 match against Australia in January 2011.

England was touring Australia, and Chris joined the squad and played his first international match in Sydney, Australia.

He played fine in the first game but not too good or too bad. It was an average performance, but at least he took his first international wicket in that series.

In the same England tour of Australia, Chris made his ODI career debut in Sydney against Australia.

Well, this time, it was all Woakes, and he ripped the Australian team apart as he took 6 wickets for England and only gave away 45 runs in his 10 overs.

Similarly, he had his test debut in 2013 when Tim Bresnan got injured and could not attend the Australia tour of England.

During the end of 2014, he toured with the team to Sri Lanka, and he had become an important part of the team alongside the senior bowlers of the team like Stuart Board and James Anderson.

He put on a spectacular show again in the 5th match of the series against Srilanka, where he managed to take 6 wickets again and only gave away 47 runs.

2015 World Cup

Chris was selected for the squad of the 2015 world cup for England. He played in all of the games but could not play the final game where England was eliminated.

He injured himself and was not able to make it in the playing 11.

Woakes was out with the injury for quite a while, and he only made his awaited return in the 2015/16 series against Australia and Pakistan.

He became more consistent after the injury, and he achieved another feat On 21 June 2016.

Woakes scored his career’s highest run of 95 runs against Sri Lanka in an ODI series on that day.

He became one of the only players to score that high score coming at eight down in the game.

Then in 2018, against India in a test match, he struck an amazing performance of 137 runs not out.
