Alexander Gustafsson: Early Life
Alexander was born on January 15, 1987. The fighter was born in a small town called Arboga in Sweden.
Arboga is a two-hour drive from Stockholm, where he was raised and brought up.
Alexander’s father’s name is unknown as his mother separated from his father when he was very small.
His stepfather and his mother raised him. His birth father has an alcohol addiction which led him to be far from the family.
Despite living in a different town, Alexander and his biological father remained close.

Alexander started his debut career in 2006 when he started training for MMA. He had won the National Youth Tournament back in 2003 at the age of 16.
From 2008 to 2009, he had won a few Amateur boxing competitions in Sweden, which made him set to fight in the nation of Sweden.
But before he could compete in the nationals of the following year in 2010, he quit MMA to join UFC.
In his last fight before joining UFC, he was put against European veteran Vladimir Shemarov.
The match was on 30th September 2009, and Gustafsson won the match via knockout in the first round.
Ultimate Fighting Championship
Alexander made his UFC debut on November 14th, 2009, in UFC 105.
He fought against Jared Hamman, who he knocked out in the first round using a straight hand punch within the game’s first minute.
But in his next fight against Phil Davis on April 10th of, 2010, he lost against Anaconda Choke.
After that, he had traveled to train in the Alliance MMA camp, where he worked on his strength and speed. Then when he returned, he faced Cyrill Diabate in the UFC 120.
He won the match via a rear choke forcing Diabate into submission. Alexander credited the training at the Alliance MMA for his victory.
He went on to win his second consecutive win at the UFC 127.
It was when he defeated James Te-Huna on February 19th of, 2011, via a rear-naked choke that led to submission.
Then he went on to face Matt Hamill in the UFC 141. On August 6th of, 2010, where he defeated Hamill with straight punches followed by two uppercuts in the second round.
After that came the most anticipated match against Matyushenko, which took place on 30th December of 2011.
Alexander defeated Matyushenko with punches. This set the record straight that Alexander was a force not to be reckoned with.
Next, Alexander dominated the boxing ring against Thiago Silva.
After this, UFC president Dana White commented that Gustafsson would face someone on the top of the rankings next, seeing his continuous great performances.
He was about to face Strike Force Light Heavyweight Champion Gegard Mousasi on the 6th of April 2013.
But unfortunately, he got injured in the sparring session and was unable to fight.
When Alexander recovered, he had a title shot for the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. He was about to face then titleholder Jon Jones on 21st September of 2013.
This match was unlike any for Gustafsson because Jones truly proved to be worthy of his title.
Jones completely dominated Gustafsson in the ring, and by the end of the match, Gustafsson was sent to the hospital due to his injuries.
Jones regarded that Alexander had given him one of the hardest fights of his life and really put up a fight.
They both were rewarded with the Fight Of The Night title. After seeing the match, many critics applauded Gustafsson, and the same year, he was awarded the International Fighter of the year award.
