College Career

Physical transformation in Matthews began developing in his senior season. He attended the University of Southern California in the United States.

He got the chance to play in the University of Southern California’s (USCs) Bowl Championship Series (BCS) National Championship for the Trojan football team from 2004 to 2008.

Matthews spectacularly performed special team play and was awarded USCs Co-special Team Player of the Year in 2006, 2007, and 2008, making him the only person in history to be awarded consecutively for three years.

The University of Southern California (USCs) enlisted Matthews among 12 senior football players, and the Sports Illustrated 2009 National Football League Draft Preview magazine featured him in the same year.

NFL Career

Matthews always hoped to play in the National Football League (NFL) Championship representing a famous club.

In the 2009 National Football League Draft process, the Green Bay Packers, a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin, acquired Matthews with the 26th overall selection.

After a stunning performance in the 13th week of that season with six tackles and two sacks, he was awarded the NFC Defensive Player of the Week.

He became the first Packers’ rookie selected to be in a Pro-Bowl after being added to the 2010 Pro-Bowl NFC Squad.

Among many athletes, Matthews was alleged as an illegal performance-enhancing drug user in The Dark Side: Secrets of the Sports Dopes, an Al Jazeera 2016 documentary.
