Richardson replaced a struggling Sirmon with his group chasing Florida International 20-10 in the 3rd quarter of the fourth game. The Miami native stepped over and carried the Chippewas to victory after the Panthers scored it 27-10 with a punt return that resulted in a score.

His biggest play came on a long post throw from JaCorey Sullivan when he drifted the throw to his sprinting receiver for a score of 47 yards. His failure to detect that a defender had fallen into the backfield while in zone coverage resulted in the redshirt freshman’s first interception.

Near the first half’s conclusion, he attempted a second, more expensive ball behind a throwing Lew Nichols at the goal line. The pass rebounded off Nichols’ arm and was intercepted, eliminating a chance for a goal.
