Please get to know what happened to him and more details about the accident.
Greg Abbott Accident
Governor Greg Abbott, a 26-year-old recent law school graduate, decided to take a break from preparing for the bar exam on a summer’s day in July 1984 by going for a jog in a west Houston neighborhood.
Governor Abbott was out running when a massive oak tree nearby split and crashed on his back, paralyzing him permanently from the waist down.
Doctors found shattered ribs, damage to essential organs, and numerous crushed vertebrae splintering into his spinal cord when he was brought to the hospital.
He was in excruciating discomfort while he slept in a hospital bed as specialists repaired his vertebrae.
Two steel rods were placed close to his spine and will stay there for the foreseeable future.
What Happened to Greg Abbott After The Accident?
Abbott suffered a rare accident at age 26 that left him essentially crippled and bedridden for a month. His aspirations to become a lawyer faded.
However, he cultivated new aspirations, reading about politics while recovering, and internalizing his mother’s maxim, “Never say I can’t.”
Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas, has already gotten $7.9 million from a legal settlement related to an injury that rendered him wheelchair-bound in 1984.
After using the homeowner and the tree service, Abbott received a settlement that included graded payments for tax-free annuities.
He received his first payment, a $300,000 check written in 1986.
They include lump sums deposited every three years until the last year and monthly payments that will last the remainder of his life.
He received $450,000 in 2016 while serving as governor for the first time.
The following payment, for $500,000 in 2019, was made during his second term, and the last, for $740,020, is due on November 1, 2022.
Without accounting for inflation, the sum would be slightly around $9 million.
Abbott refuted claims that the legislation Abbott supported ten years ago that placed restrictions on litigation compensation prevented such a settlement from being reached.
He contends that anyone in a similar situation today may come to the same kind of agreement.
Where is American Politician Greg Abbott now?
