Dimple Yadav is an Indian politician and the wife of Akhilesh Yadav. She was born on January 15, 1978. Dimple was elected to the Lok Sabha twice as a Samajwadi Party candidate from Kannauj. 

Dimple’s father-in-law is Mulayam Singh Yadav, a former Indian Defence Minister, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, and founder-patron of the Samajwadi Party.

Dimple is the second of three daughters born to former Indian Army commanders Ram Chandra Singh Rawat and Champa Rawat. Her forefathers originated in Uttarakhand. She went to schools in Pune, Bathinda, Andaman, the Nicobar Islands, and Lucknow’s Army Public School on Nehru Road. Lucknow University awarded her a bachelor’s degree in business.

Akhilesh Yadav was born in Saifai, Etawah District, Uttar Pradesh, on July 1, 1974. He was taken to Malti Devi and Mulayam Singh Yadav. He is the son of senior politician Mulayam Singh Yadav, the founder-patron of the Samajwadi Party, who served in the Government of India as Minister of Defence and as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for three years.

Malti Devi became vegetative after problems during her pregnancy with Akhilesh. She passed away in 2003. With Mulayam Singh Yadav preoccupied with politics, Akhilesh was raised primarily by his paternal grandparents.

He attended a local school in Saifai before moving on to one in Etawah town. He attended Dholpur Military School in Dholpur, Rajasthan, before going to JSS Science and Technology University, where he earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Civil Environmental Engineering. Yadav also holds a master’s degree in environmental engineering from the University of Sydney in Australia.
