James Conner Illness And Health Update: Will Arizona Cardinals RB Play This Week?

American football running back James Earl Conner, famed for his ground game James Conner plays for the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL).

The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted the NFL pro in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft; before his selection, the footballer represented his collegiate football at Pittsburgh Panther Football. The Pittsburgh Steelers selected the athlete in the third round with the 105th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Conner committed to play college football at the University of Pittsburgh in August 2012.

 In 2014, the footballer was awarded the ACC Player of the Year and garnered AFCA first-team All-American honors. The Cardinals RB rushed for 1,680 yards on 155 carries and 26 touchdowns as a senior.

James Conner Illness: Is He Ill?

On December 4, 2015, Conner announced he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

After tearing his MCL during the Panthers’ first game of 2015, Conner attended rehab and began experiencing excessive fatigue and other symptoms, leading doctors to perform a chest x-ray that revealed Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

During the 2015 season, James was also diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma during rehab and was finally cancer-free during the off-season.

On December 19, 2017, he was placed on injured reserve due to an MCL injury that required surgery. Later, in 2019, in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks, the footballer injured his knee and exited the game in the third quarter.

James Conner Health Update

James Conner endured 12 rounds of chemotherapy following his diagnosis and completed his last chemo appointment on May 9, 2016. 

However, during his treatment, Conner continued to participate in non-contact drills with the Pittsburgh Panthers football team as much as his body would allow.

On April 21, 2016, Cardinals RB appeared on one of The Ellen DeGeneres Show episodes and met Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry, who also overcame Hodgkin’s lymphoma and whom Conner saw as an inspirational figure.

On May 23, 2016, Conner announced on Twitter that he was Cancer free.

Conner injured his ribs in the second quarter of Week 5 against the Philadelphia Eagles and did not return. Kingsbury said Williams has an MCL sprain, and his prospects for Week 7 are dubious.

Will Arizona Cardinals RB Play This Week?

The internet was buzzing about Conner’s absence after he was missing from a practice match. The footballer is dealing with a rib injury that forced him to miss Week 6, and there doesn’t seem to be much optimism for his availability in Week 7 coming off a short week. 

As per Arizonasports, Kliff Kingsbury, a head coach of Arizona Cardinals, reported running backs James Conner and Darrel Williams will not play Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks due to injuries sustained last weekend.

James hasn’t logged any recorded or estimated practice activity since injuring his ribs in the first half of a Week 5 loss to the Eagles. Conner looks to be trending toward missing a second straight contest.

According to sportsedge, the Cardinals declared RB James Conner, C Rodney Hudson, K Matt Prater, QB Trace McSorley, CB Trayvon Mullen Jr., RB Darrel Williams, and OL Lecitus Smith inactive for Week 6 against the Seahawks.
