Jonathan Toews is one of the two ice hockey contenders in his family. His younger brother, David Toews, also played the game professionally.

Jonathan Bryan Toews is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who plays center for the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL).

The Blackhawks selected Jonathan with the third overall pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, and he has played for the team ever since.

Nicknamed “Captain Serious,” he was selected the Hawks captain in his second season, becoming the second-youngest captain in NHL history (after Sidney Crosby).

One of the highly decorated players, he has won both individual and team trophies and recognitions, including the Stanley Cup in 2010, 2013, and 2015, Conn Smythe Trophy, NHL Rookie of the Year in 2007, and gold medals in five major international competitions.

Besides, Jonathan was named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in 2017. He even has a lake and a community center named after him in his hometown of Winnipeg.

Jonathan Toews has one sibling: a younger brother named David Toews. David is 32, whereas Jonathan is 34. 

David Toews followed his big brother’s footsteps and forged a career in ice hockey. He is a former Canadian professional ice hockey player. The New York Islanders drafted him in the 3rd round, 66th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. 

In his professional career, David has played for teams like the Chicago Blackhawks, Toledo Walleye, Bakersfield Condors, Idaho Steelheads, and Reading Royals.

For his international career, David debuted with Hockey Canada as a member of the national under-18 team on August 8, 2007.

He was among the roster members for the 2007 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. He recorded one assist in four games; however, Canada was later defeated 5–4 by Russia in the bronze-medal match.

Both the Toews brothers attended Shattuck-Saint Mary’s and began their first years at the University of North Dakota. Their cousin Kai Toews is a professional basketball player.

On April 29, 1988, Jonathan Toews was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Bryan Toews and Andrée Gilbert, his parents, are members of an upper-middle-class family.

His Father, Bryan, was the chief electrician at the University of Manitoba, while his mother, Andrée, was the managing director and finance expert for a credit firm in Winnipeg. The Quebec native later retired to oversee her son’s media relations.

Bryan was also a keen ice hockey enthusiast and was the one who first sparked the interest of his sons in the game. Jonathan started skating at three with supportive family background and became extremely confident with the game.

Within a couple of years, he further began playing ice hockey. Seeing Jonathan and David enjoying ice hockey, their Father built a backyard rink, and all three of them would skate there until they were tired.

Brian once said that his son, Jonathan, had a natural talent and a strong presence of mind at an early age which nobody could have taught him.

Jonathan has Canadian, German, and French roots. He is bilingual, speaking fluent French and English.

Jonathan is unmarried; however, he has been dating Lindsey Vecchione for a long time. Lindsey is an American model born and raised in Illinois, Chicago. She is also a hairstylist and colorist and owns Art of Alchemy Salon and Hair By Lindsey.

The two are frequently spotted out together, and Lindsey attends her boyfriend’s games and cheers him on from the sidelines.
