As the wife of President Joe Biden, Jill Tracy Jacobs Biden is an American schoolteacher who has served as the country’s first lady since 2021. From 2009 to 2017, she served as the country’s second lady while her husband was vice president.

Her education background includes a bachelor’s in English from the University of Delaware, master’s degrees in both education and English from West Chester University and Villanova University, and a Ph.D. in education from Delaware University.

Meet Jill Biden Parents: Mother Jean Jacobs & Father Donald C. Jacobs

On June 3, 1951, in Hammonton, New Jersey, Jill Jacobs was born. During World War II, her Father, Donald Carl Jacobs, worked as a bank teller and a signalman for the U.S. Navy. 

He then used the G.I. Bill to attend business school and progressed through the banking industry ranks. Before his Father, who immigrated to the United States from the Italian village of Gesso in Sicily, altered the family name, his name was Giacoppo. Bonny Jean (Godfrey) Jacobs, her mother, was a homemaker with Scottish and English ancestry.

She was raised in Hatboro, Pennsylvania, and moved to Mahwah, New Jersey, when she was eight years old with her family. The Mahwah Savings and Loan Association’s CEO was her Father. 

The Jacobs family relocated to Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, a Philadelphia suburb, in 1961. Donald Jacobs became the helm of InterCounty Savings and Loan in the city’s Chestnut Hill district, serving in that capacity for 20 years.

She frequently attended Sunday services at a Presbyterian church with her grandmother, even though her parents, who identified as “agnostic realists,” did not participate in church. After taking independent membership lessons at the nearby Abington Presbyterian Church, Jacobs was confirmed at 16.

Jill Jacobs had a career in mind from the beginning. At age 15, she started working, which included working as a waiter in Ocean City, New Jersey. 

She went to Upper Moreland High School, where she subsequently claimed she was a bit of a renegade, enjoyed hanging out with people, and enjoyed pulling practical jokes. 

She did, however, recollect that she had always enjoyed taking English classes and that her peers had praised her for being an excellent student. 1969 saw her graduate.
