A few years later, Mitch and Jenine’s adopted daughter were diagnosed with a brain tumor.

With no other options in Haiti, the novelist moved to the United States, searching for treatment.

Sadly, despite the effort, Chika died on April 7, 2017, at the age of seven, after the couple devoted two years trying to find a solution.
