Najib Razak death news is a hoax, but he has been condemned to 12 years in prison for his role in a corruption case. He was active in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad, a state-owned wealth fund (1MDB).

He was convicted in July 2020 but released on bail during the appeal process.

The court also dismissed Najib’s bid to postpone his sentencing. He has maintained his denial of any misconduct.

A court found him guilty on seven counts in 2020, centered on a total of 42 million ringgit ($9.4 million; £8 million) moved from SRC International, a former affiliate of 1MDB, into his accounts.

What Happened To Najib Razak? 

Indicted on three money laundering charges, Najib Razak was in connection with a multi-million dollar corruption scandal.

He was suspected of obtaining 42 million ringgit ($10 million; £8 million) in his bank account from state fund 1MDB.

Najib was arrested in July 2022 and faces charges of breach of trust and abuse of authority.

After his shocking election loss in May, the current probe into 1MDB began.

The claims were pivotal in his defeat by a reforming alliance led by 93-year-old political veteran Mahathir Mohamad.

Raids on residences associated with Najib and his wife have occurred recently. According to police, the seizure of valuables, which included designer handbags, jewelry, and cash, was the largest in Malaysian history.

Najib established 1MDB in 2009 to transform Kuala Lumpur into a financial powerhouse.

The Wall Street Journal then claimed to have seen a paper trail that led to $700 million.

Where Is Najib Razak Now?

On Tuesday, August 23, 2022, Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Najib Razak was sentenced to 12 years in prison after the country’s highest court rejected his final appeal.

A five-judge federal court bench led by the nation’s chief justice unanimously upheld Mr. Najib’s conviction on seven corruption counts, finding his appeal “devoid of any grounds.”

With its judgment, the high court proved its independence. 

Mr. Najib, called the “Man of Steal” by opponents, was convicted on seven counts of abuse of authority, breach of trust, and money laundering. Two years ago, for fraudulently accepting $9.8 million transactions from SRC International.

He faces dozens of further accusations in the scam involving $4.5 billion that went missing from the fund known as 1MDB, which he managed as both prime minister and finance minister.
