As per the VRT spokesman Bob Vermir, On August 28, 2023, Sven Pichal resigned from VRT, the public broadcasting organization in Belgium.

It was reported that Sven Pichal’s lawyer had informed VRT about his decision to stop working with the organization.

His resignation was immediate and attributed to personal reasons.

Pichal’s lawyer, Walter Damen, added that Pichal would be professionally guided and retire from public life. The exact reasons for his resignation were not disclosed.

However, the following Monday, it was revealed by HLN (Het Laatste Nieuws), a Belgian newspaper, that Sven Pichal had been arrested as part of a criminal investigation of child pornography.

He was reported to have been in prison and was being held at Turnhout prison. The charges against him reportedly include possession and dissemination of child pornography.

The Antwerp public prosecutor’s office spokesperson neither confirmed nor denied this information when questioned.
