Conor was born into a Catholic, nationalist family in north Belfast, Northern Ireland, but they relocated to Hertfordshire in 1980 when Conor was eight. At the time, the conflict called the Troubles was happening on their home soil.

Reflecting on his time growing up, Conor said that when he moved to England, he initially felt unsafe. He told his mother that it did not feel right because the Police were unarmed and the Army was not around. It reflects the kind of normality he grew up with in Northern Ireland.

However, Conor returned as often as he could to spend Easter holidays with his grandmother in Belfast and summers with his grandfather in Ballycastle.

Conor attended the independent St Columba’s College, St Albans, and studied Modern History and Politics at the University of Southampton. 

The politician was a friend of Margaret Thatcher in her later years and spoke in the House of Commons debate on April 10, 2013, following her death. More recently, he has been one of Boris Johnson’s closest allies.

In his spare time, Conor goes to the gym and enjoys cooking. He is an avid keen snooker fan and previously chaired the All-Party Parliamentary snooker group.

Conor happily identifies as Irish, British, and Northern Irish and is a devout Catholic.
