Diego Matias Hypolito, known as Diego Hypolito, was born on June 19, 1986.

His father, Wagner Hypolito, a bus driver, and his mother, Geni Matias, a seamstress.

The gymnast has Greek ancestry from his father and has Portuguese ancestry from his maternal family.

As a child, he chooses to represent and play for Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, commonly referred to as Flamengo.

So Diego specialized in solo exercise, in which he won his first-ever titles as infantil and later as júnior.
