People are curious to know whether or not Giorgia Meloni is related to Mussolini.

Giorgia Meloni, the leader of the Brothers of Italy party, stated that she had an unbroken relationship with history while noting in an interview that previous fascist leader Benito Mussolini had a pretty complicated personality.

She has been involved in politics for a long time, becoming the youngest minister in postwar Italian history at 31 and co-founding Brothers of Italy in 2012.

Is Giorgia Meloni Related To Mussolini?

Meloni’s Brothers of Italy won the most votes in the general election on Sunday, and her right-wing coalition appears to have a majority in both houses of parliament.

The 45-year-old has swept up disenchanted voters and developed a formidable personal brand by railing against the European Union, mass immigration, and “LGBT lobbies.”

Giorgia Meloni Controversy Explained

Controversy has risen after sources have claimed that Giorgia Meloni is a threat to Europe’s democratic equilibrium. Her leadership appears to be the polar opposite of what Italy requires – and not just now.

The risk for Europe arises because Italy has historically served as a test bed for other countries’ crises. Before Action Directe arrived in France and the Red Army Faction followed suit in Germany, Italy had Mussolini and the leftwing extremist Red Brigades.

Italy had Berlusconi before the United States had Trump. And, after years of Berlusconi’s misrule, Italy gave birth to the Five Star Movement, the first populist party led by a comedian, before the rest of Europe.

The objective of Five Star was political disruption, often with no regard for the consequences.

Meloni’s moral and economic inspiration is Viktor Orbán, the man who has just crushed Hungary’s opposition and gained legitimacy by weaponizing public consent.

He has delivered a fleeting sense of security, but Hungarians have paid dearly for it in the form of economic instability and, most importantly, the loss of their liberties.

Giorgia Meloni Career In Politics

Meloni was born in Rome on January 15, 1977, and was raised by her mother in the working-class district of Garbatella after her father abandoned them.

Her party received only 4% of the vote in the 2018 general election but is expected to receive 26% in Sunday’s elections.

That put Meloni ahead of her opponents and her coalition partners, Matteo Salvini’s anti-immigration League and Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia, in whose administration she served in 2008.

After opting out of outgoing Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi’s national unity cabinet, Meloni has reaped the benefits of being the sole opposition party for the past 18 months.

At the same time, she has tried to reassure people who are skeptical of her lack of expertise, with her tagline “Ready” appearing on billboards across the country.

Giorgia Meloni Neo-fascist Past

Meloni was a teen activist in the youth wing of the Italian Social Movement (MSI), which was founded after World War II by supporters of fascist dictator Benito Mussolini.

At the age of 19, while campaigning for the far-right National Alliance, she told French television that “Mussolini was a brilliant politician in that he accomplished everything for Italy.”

She changed her attitude after being elected as a National Alliance MP in 2006, stating the dictator had made “mistakes,” including racial legislation, authoritarianism, and entering World War II on the side of Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Germany.

Her party gets its name from the first line of Italy’s national anthem, and its emblem features the same flame as MSI but in the Italian flag colors: green, white, and red.
