Steven Michael Crowder has been charged with nine charges concerning a narcotics distribution plot to Troup County Jail inmates.
Crowder’s activities were investigated earlier when claims surfaced that he was selling narcotics to convicts through a middleman.
According to the sheriff’s office, Crowder is believed to be the only correctional officer implicated in the plot. In January, he began working as a detention officer for the sheriff’s office.

On Tuesday, a detention officer Steven Crowder was arrested for allegedly bringing drugs into the Troup County Jail.
Steven Crowder, 23, allegedly smuggled narcotics for more than one offender in exchange for money on multiple occasions. Crowder had worked with the company since January 2022.
The investigation began about a month ago, according to police, when officials obtained evidence that Crowder was bringing in narcotics and being paid through a third party.
According to the sheriff’s office, Steven is believed to be the only correctional officer implicated in the plot. In January, he began working as a detention officer for the sheriff’s office.

Where Is Steven Crowder Now? His Charges Details
A Troup County Sheriff’s Office Detention Officer has been accused of bringing drugs into the Troup County Jail and selling them to inmates.
Steven Michael Crowder has been charged with four charges of oath violation by a public officer, four counts of inmate possession of forbidden materials, and one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
Troup County Sheriff James Woodruff stated that every staff member is held to a higher standard. He personally informs each of them of the consequences they would face if they bring contraband into the jail or engage in illegal behavior.
According to officials, after the inquiry is completed, inmates engaged with Crowder will face charges as well.
Crowder could be sentenced to one to 25 years in prison. Once the inquiry is concluded, the detainees will face charges as well.

Three Others Arrested For Selling Narcotics To Inmates
Following the arrest of the Troup County Sheriff’s Office Detention Officer for bringing narcotics to inmates in the Troup County Jail for money, three others were arrested for selling narcotics to inmates.
The Troup County Sheriff’s Office has charged the following people in connection with the investigation of former detention officer Steven Crowder, who was arrested Monday for bringing prohibited materials into the jail:
37-year-old Reginal Saffold was accused of four counts of inmate possession of forbidden substances and one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
He was already in jail for many charges, including aggravated assault and obstruction, according to Sgt. Stewart Smith works with the TCSO.
Jason Cofield, 37, was charged with two counts of inmate possession of forbidden substances and one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. He was detained previously on federal narcotics and theft charges by Lee County deputies.
Cofield was wanted for a variety of drug and theft crimes. Back in January, investigators discovered a meth lab, guns, and stolen cars on his property. He was already in jail on counts of obstructing an officer and interfering with government policy.
Ruby Jean Griffin, 42, was charged with two counts of inmate possession of forbidden substances and one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
