Jimmy Butler: Early Life

Family and childhood

Jimmy Butler’s father ditched the family when Jimmy was an infant.

By the time Jimmy was 13 years old and living in Houston, his mother said the final words for her son: “I don’t like the look of you, you gotta go.”

 He then bounced between his friends’ houses, staying for a few weeks before moving to another home. His childhood was very struggling and tough.

He earned All-Big East Honorable Mention honors as he moved into the starting lineup as a junior during the 2009–10 campaign, where he had averaged 14.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

In 2010-2011 as a senior, he had an average of 15.7 points per game and earned an All-Big East Honorable.

Professional Career

Jimmy Butler played overall 106 games for Marquette with an average of 12.0 per game.

After completing his graduation from Marquette University, he was up for the 2011 National Basketball Association draft and was chosen as their 30th overall pick by the Chicago Bulls. 

Then he signed his contract on December 9, 2011, with the Bulls. He played overall 42 matches in his debut season, scoring 2.6 points per game.

In the 2014-15 seasons, Butler takes center stage in the Bulls’ gameplay.

Then the contract also permits him a fifth-year player option. On February 5, 2016, in a game against Denver Nuggets, he suffered a left knee strain.

Because of this, he was nearly out for four weeks, and consequently, he missed the 2016 NBA All-Star Game.

He made his comeback on 14 March against the Toronto Raptors.

In the Bulls’ last game of the season, he scored a triple-double with 12 rebounds, 10 points, and 10 assists against the Philadelphia 76ers on 13 April.

Butler signed with the Miami Heat on July 6, 2019, via a sign and trade with the 76ers in a four-team trade.
