Marie Osmond admitted to having severe postpartum depression in 1999. Behind the Smile, a book she co-wrote with Marcia Wilkie and Dr. Judith Moore, details her experiences with the condition.
Osmond was diagnosed with depression and prescribed the antidepressant Zoloft. She couldn’t take it anymore after the fifth day of using the medications. She claims that while medication effectively removed depression, it also robbed her of joy.
Years later, the media said that she had been hospitalized after attempting suicide, but her manager, Karl Engemann, disputed the accusations, claiming that she had blacked out after taking medication.
