Tommie Gorman disclosed that he had been taking an injection every 28 days for the past 20 years to manage his illness. He also mentioned that it was similar to a monthly fill-up and that he could feel the engine grumbling towards the conclusion of each month.

Tommie Gorman’s final show for RTÉ is titled Ireland, Cancer, and Me, and the title evokes an emotional roller coaster. 

For the past 20 years, the broadcaster’s recently retired Northern Ireland editor has battled neuroendocrine tumors. 

And now, as he bows out, he returns to his decades-long battle to keep this unusual type of the disease at bay. It appears inevitable that tears will be shed, both Gorman’s and ours.

Tommie Gorman Health Update: Is He Fine Now?

“Living with a potentially fatal disease entails more than just placing one foot in front of the other. Your entire worldview has been skewed.”

He says this on his way to one of those routine check-ups at St Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin, where he will be given the all-clear. He claimed that the tumors had been bothering him since his late 30s.

For the time being, Tommie’s life continues as usual. However, living with a life-threatening disease entails more than just placing one foot in front of the other. Your entire worldview has been skewed. 

“When you get out of it, you’re a new person: you’re not optimistic, realistic, or pessimistic,” Gorman’s consultant explains. “You are none of the three: you simply are.” You’re loving the time between scans.”

Tommie Gorman and his wife, Ceara Roche, had been married for ten years. They reside in Sligo.

When RTE actor Tommie Gorman was diagnosed with cancer, his daughter Moya was only ten months old, and his son Joe had yet to be born.

Tommie revealed that their son had not yet been born when he was diagnosed. On such topics, he and his wife made a significant decision.

Tommie, who had recently retired as RTE’s Northern Ireland editor, was returning to his hometown of Sligo with his wife, Ceara, and daughter, Moya when he made the first discovery.

According to him, the worst time for everyone with cancer is when they are told because it feels like Armageddon. Then everything calms down a little, and you try to deal with it.

Moya, their daughter, works in Brussels, while Joe, their son, lives in Boston. Joe is now 26 years old, and Moya is 29.

Tommie told Brendan O’Connor of RTÉ Radio 1 that their two children are young adults. He went on to say that it is wonderful to be able to watch children grow up, live life with them, and see them ready to take their position in the world. 

He felt he deserved nothing, even though those were all bonus years.
