Authorities said a 20-year-old male was detained after he reportedly opened Fire on a gathering in Harrisonburg, Virginia, not far from the James Madison University campus, hurting eight people.

Tyreaf Isaiah Fleming, of Harrisonburg, was reportedly detained on accusations of attempted murder, aggravated malicious wounding, firearm possession by a felon, and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony on Sunday afternoon, according to the Police.

According to officials, further charges are anticipated as the investigation progresses. The offender was identified by surveillance cameras and witnesses, according to the Police.

Harrisonburg Police Department Chief Kelley Warner stated that the investigation into the event is ongoing as they try to identify anyone else who might have been involved.

“I am thankful for the prompt action of all of our first responders and the dedication of our cops in locating and apprehending a suspect,” stated Kelly.

According to an official public post on the city of Harrisonburg’s Twitter account, Fleming has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated malicious wounding, possession of a handgun by a felon, and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

According to Police, Tyreaf Isaiah Fleming, 20, of Harrisonburg, was detained on Sunday afternoon due to an incident that left eight persons with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds in the 1500 block of Devon Lane.

Further charges, according to the Police, are anticipated as the investigation proceeds. Hours after the shooting in the 1500 block of Devon Lane, less than a mile from the campus in Harrisonburg, Police announced Fleming’s arrest at around 4:30 pm.

According to authorities, it is being investigated to see whether there are any further suspects. Around 2:20 in the morning, sources reported gunfire in a crowd at an outdoor gathering close to the University.

Officials claimed that witness accounts and security camera footage were essential in identifying Fleming as a suspect.

Who Are The Victims Of Shooting At Virginia Gathering?

The shooting victimized several people carried out by an individual at a Virginia gathering.

According to witnesses, “one individual or individuals shot multiple rounds into a crowd at an outdoor Party” at around 2:20 in the 1500 block of Devon Lane, eight victims, ages 18 to 27, were taken to the hospital.

According to authorities, three injured were moved to UVA Medical Center, while three others received treatment at Sentara RMH Medical Center. Officials described all of their injuries as not life-threatening.

Investigators believe the occurrence is “contained,” and there is no “risk to the larger community.”

None of the victims, according to University officials, are students. At approximately three in the morning, the school used the LiveSafe app to send a shelter-in-place message.

JMU Police Chief Anthony Matos sent a statement to the University asking students to “remember ways to preserve your safety while we are moving back to campus following an autumn break and the weekend.”
