In 2010, Russ opened up about his health in a MailOnline interview. He revealed that although he was pretty fit, his family had a bad health history. The men in his family have had heart problems, with both his brothers dying from fatal heart attacks. Russ’ dad died of a stroke aged 60 in 1972.
Although he tries not to worry about it, Russ stays careful and gets tests once or twice a year. His doctor would always say that he is pretty fit with the blood pressure of an athlete. However, he was prescribed a “daily statin” to keep his cholesterol in control.

While at school, Russ dreamed of being a pop star drummer. Even though he was good at school, he once failed an exam, which made his Father lock his drums away. He told Russ that he would get them back after passing his exams. Fortunately for Russ, his mother had spare keys.
In 1963, Russ joined the Black Abbots, the local band founded by Robert Turner. The band released several singles and soon went big.
During one of their concerts, Russ spotted a girl, Patricia, in the audience who would go on to be his wife. After the show, she approached the band members for autographs, which is how the two met.
The Black Abbots disbanded in 1980, and Russ formed a new group named The New Black Abbots. Furthermore, he launched himself as a solo comedian to great success as he won the TV Times Funniest Man on Television Award five different times.
From 1980 onward, Russ released some albums as a solo artist. The most successful among his singles was Atmosphere, which did well in the UK top 10, earning him a Silver Disc.
He has starred in television shows like The Comedians, Last, of the Summer Wine, September Song, Married for Life, and Boomers. Besides, he has had shows like Russ Abbot’s Madhouse and The Russ Abbot Show.
