In 2014, he signed a one-year contract with the Washington Redskins worth $795,000, which was later increased to $1.5 million in 2015. In 2016, his average annual salary increased to $3 million.

The quarterback agreed to a new three-year, $9 million contract with the team. Colt McCoy signed a new one-year contract with the Redskins on July 26, 2018, but his 2018 season remains under his previous contract.
