Kiambu politician Gladys Chania Husband has become a buzzing topic after she was detained for allegedly killing Eng. George Mwangi.

Gladys Chania is a teacher and counseling psychologist by profession who has graduated from St John’s Teachers College, Kilimambogo.

She was also Jubilee Party’s Woman Representative candidate for Kiambu County in the August 9 elections.

Before venturing into politics in the 2013 election, the politician operated the Right at Home rehabilitation center for alcoholics in Thika Town.

Who Is Gladys Chania Husband Eng. George Mwangi?

Gladys Chania Husband Eng. George Mwangi was a Rwanda-based engineer and businessman who worked as Power Systems Protection Engineer at Kenya Power.

George Mwangi and the politician were married for 20 years with three children.

As per records, The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives are working around the clock to unravel the gruesome murder of her husband.

The politician killed the businessman on October 10. The following day, his wife, Gladys Chania, was arrested as the prime suspect in the murder plot. 

According to the DCI, the murder weapons were discovered in the main bedroom.

During the investigation, The investigators also discovered blood-soaked bed sheets, curtains, and clothing hidden in a locked room adjacent to the bedroom.

Why Was Kiambu Politician Arrested?

Kiambu politician Gladys Chania will appear in court on Monday, October 17, on suspicion of murdering her husband, George Mwangi.

The body of Mwangi, who worked as a contractor in Rwanda, was found in Kieni Forest last Wednesday, a few hours before he was supposed to fly to Kigali.

George’s body was wrapped in a polythene bag and buried beneath a pile of cartons. The businessman,58, was killed, and then his body was transported to a forest, wrapped in polythene, and doused with acid.

Three other suspects are also set to appear before the Kiambu court as Police are expected to ask for more time to investigate.

Detectives have taken over the matter from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). 

What Charges Did Gladys Chania Face?

According to sources, the politician has been in and out of Police and court cells over several criminal cases involving allegations of defrauding members of the public of cash.

Before her husband’s murder, Chania was in Kiambu Law Courts on September 29, facing a fraud case number MCCR/1283/2018.

The politician was charged with defrauding two people, Eric Gathogo and Martin Mwangi, KSh 400,000 at Thika Law Courts.

As per Kenya Law Penal Code, Cap 63 Laws of Kenya, the sentence for manslaughter is life imprisonment.

Is Gladys Chania In Jail?

Kiambu politician Gladys Njeri alias Chania has been remanded for seven days to allow Police to conclude investigations into her alleged involvement in the murder of her husband, George Mwangi.

Since the case is complicated Magistrate has extended the detention days till October 24. They appeared before Kiambu Resident Magistrate Wilson Rading after spending the weekend in custody.

Preliminary investigations by DCI sleuths show Mwangi returned to Kenya on September 13, 2022. Police say his murder may be linked to an alleged romantic relationship with a school secretary.

On Friday, detectives went to the murder scene in Mang’u and recovered some weapons used to murder the engineer.

Police believe the victim was murdered after being hit with a blunt object inside his home, and his body was dumped 20km away. After the murder, The body of the victim was disfigured with acid.
