One of the rising Indian actresses, Divya Bharti, died after falling from the balcony of her Mumbai apartment. Over 29 years later, many people still disagree with the official accounts and believe it was a murder rather than an accident.

Divya Bharti was an Indian actress who worked primarily in Hindi and Telugu films. She would have been 48 today.

Known for her acting versatility, charming presence, and beauty, she was of the highest-paid and high-in-demand Indian actresses of her time.

Divya started her film career as a teenager, did many minor roles, and later went on to star in many hit movies like VishwatmaShola Aur Shabnam, and Deewana, for which she won Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

Per official books, Divya Bharti faced an accidental death. In the late evening hours of April 5, 1993, the young actress was intoxicated when she walked on the ledge of her fifth-floor apartment’s balcony, slipped, and fell.

When her guests Neeta Lulla, Shyam Lulla, maid Amrita Kumari, and neighbors realized what had happened, they rushed her to the emergency department at Cooper Hospital. She was reportedly still breathing after the fall but was declared dead on arrival.

Divya was declared dead of severe head injuries and internal bleeding. The 19-year-old was cremated on April 7, 1993, at the Vile Parle crematorium in Bombay.

However, Divya’s own family believes it was an accident. Dismissing all the rumors, Divya’s Father reportedly said, “There was no question of suicide or murder. Yes, she did drink a bit, but how much can you drink in half an hour? And she was not depressed. She was the kind to give you depression! It was an accident.”

Since the case was closed and shut down long ago, it is conclusive that Divya died by accident, at least officially.

Who Is Divya Bharti Husband, Sajid Nadiadwala?

Divya Bharti was married to Sajid Nadiadwala, whom she met through actor Govinda while working on the set of Shola Aur Shabnam.

Sajid Nadiadwala is a film producer, director, and writer who works in Hindi cinema. He is the owner of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, whose best-known works include the Housefull franchise, Kick (2014), and Baaghi (2016), among others.

The two wed on May 10, 1992, at a private ceremony in Bombay in Nadiadwala’s Tulsi Buildings residence. Those present included Divya’s friend and hairdresser, Sandhya, Sandhya’s husband, and a qazi. She reportedly converted to Islam.

The marriage was kept secret so that her prosperous and booming film career would not be affected. Unfortunately, Divya passed away ten months after the wedding.

A few years after Divya’s death, Sajid met Warda Khan, a Journalist. He married Warda on November 18, 2000. The couple later had two sons.

Divya Bharti was born in Bombay (now Mumbai), India, on February 25, 1974. She was the daughter of Om Prakash Bharti and Meeta Bharti. Her full name was Divya Om Prakash Bharti.

Divya had a younger brother named Kunal and a half-sister Poonam, born from Om’s first marriage. Similarly, actress Kainaat Arora is her cousin. Divya was born Hindu but reported converting to Muslim after her marriage.

The young actress studied at Maneckji Cooper High School in Juhu, Mumbai. She was restless about her studies and pursued an acting career after completing the ninth standard.

Divya spoke Hindi, English, and Marathi fluently. She was known for her bubbly personality and doll-like looks during her early years.
