Following, he got associated with the VIcotrian Football League. He played in the league for four years, being a member of Richmond Club from 1908 to 1911.

During this tenure, he made sixty-nine goals in 71 games. However, he left the club afterward.

Later, he joined St Kilda Football Club. It is also an Australian rules FOotball club that is based in Melbourne. The club also plays in the Australian Football League.

Billy was associated with St Kilda from 1912 to 1914. He even played from the club from 1918 to 1920, even after taking a break.

Likewise, in 1921, he again joined the Richmond Football Club and played in the Australian football league.

He took his coaching and playing career together in the beginning. When he was coaching Warracknabea, he returned to play for St Kilda in 1920.

The footballer even considered himself too old for the standards set by Victorian Football League. Hence, he returned to his coaching career with Warracknabeal.

Billy even helped the team to the premiership. The locals even praised him for raising the level of activity of the team Warracknabeal against Wimmera.

He even led the town’s team to three more premierships. Finally, from 1921 to 1930, the city Warracnabeal’s team got the premiership.

Later in 1932, the footballer took the offer to coach another team. He coached the team North Gambier as they had an abysmal start in the beginning.

Luckily, the coach lifted the team’s skills and helped them finish in the third position for the 1932 season.

Re-association with Richmond club

Continuing the 1993 season, Billy coached the Richmond club, with which he was initially associated. But, sadly, the team lost to South Melbourne in the grand finale.

Later, the Richmond club appointed the player Percy Bentley as playing coach. The footballer was the captain of the club and was chosen to ward off outside club offers.

Finally, Billy returned to Wimmera and had his business set up. He also coached Miniyip in 1934. And they actually won the Mid Wimmera FL premiership.

But, the Wimmera FL had split in 1932. Later in 1939, he was re-appointed as the coach of Miniyip Football club. After this, he concluded his coaching journey as well.
