Captain Smart Arrested By NIB: Accused Of “Unethical And Irresponsible” Journalism

Captain Smart is a well-known radio personality who has made a name for himself in the media sector. In Ghanaian society, he is very well recognized for his constructive criticism.

Blessed Godsbrain Smart is the full name of Captain Smart. He was born on May 5, 1975, in a tiny community in Ghana’s Eastern Region.

He has three sizable houses, the most well-known in Accra and spread nationwide. The seasoned broadcaster has a compact sports car, a Range Rover, and a Toyota Land Cruiser.

Captain Smart has won more than 20 honors. On August 29, 2020, a Saturday. The “King of Morning Shows” was honored for his contributions at the Foklex Media Awards, which were held in Accra on August 29, 2020, and at which he was named the greatest morning show host in the Greater Accra Region.

Captain Smart, the morning show host of Onua TV/FM, a division of Media General, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, has been contacted by agents of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).

On October 19, 2022, the media personality was picked up in the evening. His detention was allegedly caused by “unethical and irresponsible” journalism.

But it should be remembered that the broadcaster recently made remarks that made President Nana Akufo-Addo look like an accessory to illegal mining in Ghana.

In a subsequent statement, the Ministry of Information denied the allegations. It said that the government has filed a complaint with the National Media Commission (NMC) and may consider legal action as a possible remedy.

The government stated last week that Captain Smart would be sued over allegations that President Akufo-Addo is engaged in illicit mining.

The National Media Commission will be consulted over the claims made by Mr. Smart, also known as Captain Smart, in a video that was made public, the government declared in a statement.

Was Captain Smart Released?

Captain Smart, the anchor of Onua FM’s morning show, was arrested earlier in the day and released by police on Wednesday night.

Before the arrest, the government had cited the controversial broadcaster for making unfounded assertions that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is actively engaged in illicit mining.

For the remarks, Mr. Smart was reported to the National Media Commission.

The government added that a lawsuit over the allegations might be brought against Mr. Smart and his employer, Media General.

Captain Smart Career

Captain Smart began his amazing journalism career with Fox FM in Kumasi. Before gaining a job at Nhyira FM on the Multimedia Network, he later worked at OTEC FM and Kesewa Radio.

In 2013, Captain Smart started working for Adom FM, and he left in 2019. His outstanding linguistic prowess has always provided him an edge in his lucrative business.

When then-famous Adom FMs Adakabre departed the station, he was the obvious choice to take over because of his stellar career and accomplishments at Nhyira FM.

Captain Smart quickly established himself as one of Ghana’s top radio journalists and Morning Show hosts thanks to his experience and talent on the airwaves of Accra.

He left Multimedia after a successful ten years because of his controversial style of attacking national politicians, for which he was suspended. He then moved to Angel FM. He presently works for ONUA Tv, owned by Media General.
