Valli was born on May 3, 1934, in the First Ward of Newark, New Jersey, to father Anthony Castelluccio and mother Mary Rinaldi, both of Italian descent.

Valli’s father was a barber and display designer, and his mother was a housewife who worked part-time for a beer firm. Frank Sinatra’s singing influenced him in Manhattan, New York City.

His stage name was inspired by “Texas” Jean Valli, whose influence on Frankie’s music was enormous. Frankie struggled for a long time and eventually found a barber job because he didn’t have many opportunities as a vocalist.

Frankie had to endure the agony of losing both of his daughters.

Celia, his stepdaughter, was dead when she fell over a fire escape in 1980, and Francine, his youngest daughter from his marriage to Mary, died six months later from a drug overdose.

Valli’s illustrious career has resulted in the phenomenal success of the Broadway musical “Jersey Boys,” which celebrates Valli’s and the Four Seasons’ impressive careers and features their greatest hits.

Valli and the Four Seasons have sold over 150 million records globally.
