Eduardo Garcia was born on the year 1981. His Father was a fisherman and a chef, and his mother was an astrologer, Montessori teacher, and novelist. He grew up in Bozeman, Montana, working on the Chico Hot Springs ranch as a prep chef. Garcia attended The Art Institute of Seattle after finishing high school. He worked at Saito’s, a Japanese restaurant, during college.

In an unusual accident in Montana’s backcountry, Chef Eduardo Garcia was struck with 2400 volts of electricity. Eduardo awoke near death, alone and miles from help, and took the first step toward what would eventually be years of recovery and rehabilitation.

When Eduardo arrived at Salt Lake City’s Burn Trauma ICU, doctors told him he was a dead man with a heartbeat. Eduardo spent 48 days in the intensive care unit while recovering.

He endured nine major exit wounds and 21 procedures involving removing four ribs and destroying muscular mass from his chest, legs, arms, and scalp. Doctors tried everything they could to preserve Eduardo’s left hand, but the chef’s hand and forearm had to be amputated when it came down to it.

Eduardo was in the acute care unit when he has diagnosed with stage 2 testicular Cancer. After postponing pending operations, he returned to Montana to begin severe chemotherapy. After months of chemotherapy, he returned to Salt Lake City to complete his surgeries.

Eduardo Garcia Accident Update

Since his hospital discharge, Eduardo has become an athlete and speaker for the Challenged Athletes Foundation, learned to use his prosthetic hook in the kitchen, and is back to exploring the great outdoors. His physical recovery is astonishing, but it is only a small part of his transition due to his catastrophic injuries.

Garcia’s tale was published in September 2013 in The Huffington Post. In November, People magazine featured him. He has also appeared on Good Morning America, and his story was also covered on Fox News Latino. He featured on The Chew in January 2014. He appeared on Katie in May.

Garcia’s dishes have been featured on HGTV.com, Refinery29, Latina.com, and Hallmark Channel’s “Home & Family.” A 2015 documentary feature film on Garcia was funded through a Kickstarter Campaign. The resulting film, Charged: The Eduardo Garcia Story, was released in 2018.

Garcia has appeared on Chopped as a guest judge as well.
