Lucy Letby, a children’s neonatal nurse at the Countess of Chester Hospital in Cheshire, is charged with murdering seven infants between mid-2015 and mid-2016—five boys and two girls—and attempting to kill ten more.

Letby has entered a not-guilty plea to all 22 charges against her concerning the 17 babies. She is suspected in multiple incidents of trying to kill the same child more than once.

However, not all serial killers are psychopaths. Serial killers are typically sadistic psychopaths, and many of them also exhibit schizoid traits. Professor Michael H. Stone of Columbia University studied a sample of serial killers psychologically.

The results show that 86.5% of serial killers met the PCL-R criteria for psychopathy. 9.0% more people displayed psychotic traits; the DSM-III criteria for sadistic PD were met by 87.5% of serial killers. A further 1.5% said sadistic PD characteristics. According to the DSM-IV, 50% of serial killers have schizoid PD. 4.0% more people showed signs of schizoid PD.

Regarding comorbidity, 93% of psychopathic serial killers fit the sadistic PD. The criteria for half of the psychopathic serial killers are met by schizophrenic PD. Co-morbid psychopathy, schizoid PD, and sadistic PD were evident in over half of the subjects.

Lucy Letby Trial Live Updates

The Lucy Letby case is now being heard at Manchester Crown Court. As of Monday, October 10, the jury has been advised that the trial may last up to six months.

Letby appeared in person at Warrington Magistrates’ Court on November 12, 2020, to respond to all charges related to the time frame between June 2015 and June 2016. During a case management hearing at Liverpool Crown Court, her trial was set for May 2021.

Why Did She Murder 7 Babies?

Ms. Letby, 32, of Hereford, denies 22 accusations at Manchester Crown Court. She is accused of trying to kill one child three times, while another died from an air injection, the jury was heard.

Some of the infants whose families were engaged in the case were in court when Mr. Johnson launched the prosecution.

According to the prosecution, it follows logically from the testimony you will hear that these infants were intentionally insulin-poisoned. In one instance, two boys who were born as twins but not to one another were poisoned just a few days after birth; the lawyer described to the jurors.

According to Mr. Johnson, their blood sugar levels dropped dangerously high. He claimed that the infants, who were only given the names “Child F” and “Child L,” could survive because medical personnel was knowledgeable and conscious that low blood sugar could have natural causes.
